October is Book Festival time in Wisconsin

The Wisconsin Humanities Council sponsors the annual Book Festival each October. This year the Festival runs from October 15 through 19 in Madison, and in the Chippewa Valley, from 16 through 19. For information, see http://www.wisconsinbookfestival.org/

The University of Wisconsin in Madison has events throughout the year for writers. For information see, www.dcs.wisc.edu/lsa/writing

The Rocky Mountain Book and Paper Fair will be held on August 5 and 6 at the Denver Merchandise Mart. A special feature this year will be the Childhood Clissics "Celebrating the Sense of Wonder." See www.rmaba.org for more information.

Writing Contests: The Money Corner

Yes, you can make money writing even as you wait for the world to discover your magnificent book. Since the mid-1980s, I have spent much of my professional life writing (and winning) government grants and proposals, from private sector agencies, county government, states, military and the federal government. I have also won a number of writing contests over the years. I will post links and information about poetry contests, short story contests, essay contests, book contests, writing fellowships and grants as I run across them. Writing Contests due in July

Literal Latté is accepting entries through July 15 for its Poetry Award of $1,000 and publication. $10 entry fee. See http://www.literal-latte.com/

Great Lakes Colleges Association is accepting entries through 25 for its New Writers Awards to a poet, fiction writer and a creative nonfiction writer. One winner in each category will receive an expense-paid trip to several of the Great Lakes Colleges and a $500 honorarium. See www.glca.org

Glimmer Train Press is accepting submissions for its Very Short Fiction Award of $1,200 and publication through July 31. $15 entry fee. See www.glimmertrain.org
